JW Pharmaceutical To Trial Wnt Drug JW0061 For Hair Regrowth In 2024
Korean company JW Pharmaceutical announces that it will participate in the upcoming Wnt 2022 Conference to unveil hair growth related data.
JW0061 Pipeline Drug For Hair Loss
Since 2017, it’s been known that the Wnt pathway specialists at JW Pharmaceutical had their sights set on hair regeneration. It was announced in the media that the company entered into a research collaboration with Dr. George Cotsarelis’ laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania to study a compound which was then called “CWL080061.” It was also inferred that US-based hair biotech Follica may have been interested in CWL080061, as Dr. Cotsarelis also serves as Follica’s co-founder. Now, at this time of the drug’s reemergence, it is no longer evident whether Follica maintains any connection to JW’s hair program.
On October 31, 2022, the Korea IT Times announced that JW Pharmaceutical will be presenting data at the global Wnt 2022 Conference taking place in Japan. Specifically, the company will be discussing the proprietary mechanism of action of JW0061, its hair regeneration drug, and sharing results from preclinical animal models. At this time it can be assumed, but not confirmed, that JW0061 and CWL080061 are the same compound based on the similarity of their development codes. Today’s publication described JW0061 as “a first-in-class candidate substance that promotes the differentiation and proliferation of hair follicle stem cells and cells involved in hair growth by activating the Wnt signaling pathway.” Sounds useful. The Wnt pathway has long been recognized as a pivotal target in tissue regeneration and hair growth; its only caveat being safety and the challenge to not overstimulate Wnt which could lead to unwanted effects. It appears that JW Pharmaceutical has put sufficient R&D into their compound over the past 5 years and may be now ready to move further down the development pathway. Below is a snapshot from JW Pharmaceutical’s pipeline; JW0061 is listed at the preclinical stage.
JW0061 To Enter Clinical Trial In 2024
In several media publications in which JW Pharma has announced the granting of patents for JW0061, the company has also stated that it plans to begin hair loss clinical trials in 2024. Some reports even estimate that the phase 1 trial for JW0061 could begin in the 1st half of 2024. I find this estimate to be extremely ambitious.
Could this be the first effective Wnt pathway hair drug to be developed? Share your thoughts on this new contender in the comments section.

Thank you for reading. A drug acting on the Wnt pathway, if safe and effective, could be an excellent complement to androgen based drugs like pyrilutamide, finasteride, etc. Also, big thanks to John Doe for the news tip.
Does it work?
We hope so Dina. The background is interesting with UPenn.
Thank you for this article admin. I hope qnd pray that it doesn’t become Samumed 2.0.
BTW, do you plan to sit with maksim plikus and get to know more about AMP 303/ AMP 506??
Franklin,, yes I will try, it’s on the list.
Wnt treatments might be the best way to grow new hair, but doesn’t Wnt signaling play a big role in cancer formation as well?
I don’t know if I would use a drug that messes with Wnt, I wouldn’t trust relatively short trials to evaluate if there is a higher risk of cancer a decade later…
there’s obviously no way they are going to develop a drug that has any chance of cancer. not only will it not get approved but I’d it did and caused cancer the class action lawsuits would bury the company forever
A pharma company would *never* lie and say it causes sickness or death (PfizerModernaJ&J) – no never!
If ever one’s assumption is that *they* wouldn’t put out a drug that causes harm else face a class-action lawsuit, you do not want to be a victim waiting for attornies to sue a pharma corporation. BTW – with a class action lawsuit the best you could ever hope for is a slap on the ass. It’s the law firms that make out like a fox. This is not mere skepticism…it is consistent historical routine. Yep even with all these Camp LeJeune commericals…
Sure you get cancer and then you go back to the same AMA drug dealer (who work for pharma) who will then give you chemo made by….guess who???
If ever in doubt just follow the money…it’s 10 minutes of research.
Great news but this is years away from this point.
Hi Admin! 🙂
I just found a post on Reddit from a guy who is part of Hope Medicine Clinical Trial:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tressless/comments/yku8zr/bayerhope_medical_trial_for_aga/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
It might be interesting to get in touch with him and to verify what he is claiming.
Thank you for everything.
Nick
Hi Nick thanks for sharing. I won’t get in touch with the guy because it’s all but impossible to verify what he is claiming. If he is indeed sincere, you/we can follow what he is saying on the thread you shared.
A bit off topic but I’ve read under one of the posts that currently developed hair multiplication techniques wouldn’t be applicable to the donor area after hair transplant. Any truth to that?
John, this is speculative until it’s been tested. I don’t see why a cloned hair follicle transplant would not work in the donor area, as it currently works standard hair transplant techniques. Repopulating donor areas which have become over-harvested is a practiced treatment.
Hello FT,
Apologize as this is off topic, but how does hope medicine work. Does it bring hair back in previously bald/thin areas? Heard its injection based like PRP
George, no worries. Hope’s HMI-115 is a prolactin receptor antibody, so it antagonizes the prolactin receptor. We don’t know yet how it will work in humans. In small monkeys we heard it regrew significant hair with lasting effect, promising, but monkey data.
Hoping a MPB cure is around the corner.
7 years of pain. Prozac in 2013 triggered my male baldness 😭. I’m not having a good day.
You will be fine Woofy. I feel for you and if we look at all the companies pursuing solutions, there is Hope.
Do minox hairs ever thicken? I’ve been applying topical fin & min mix for some 9 months now. There’s very fine minox hairs from 3 months onwards but they’re still fine, no thickening in sight. This would indicate the follicle is not dead. Do you think I need to move on to oral fin or topical DUT? I di get sides off topical fin, but they are manageable at present. Weird headaches mostly and I’m tired a lot.
