Scientists Reverse Aging Induced Hair Loss In Lab

A research team from the University of Alabama at Birmingham have identified a gene in mice that can lead to skin wrinkles, gray hair, and hair loss….or the reversal of such disorders.

Keshav Singh PhD and colleagues have discovered a genetic mutation affecting mitochondria to be a major regulator of health and the aging process. When the team implemented the genetic mutation in the mice to cause mitochondrial dysfunction said mice became hairless and decrepit in a matter of weeks. (See mouse in center below)

The most interesting aspect I have observed from this new published study is the remarkable reversal of aging symptoms displayed by the mouse when the gene leading to the dysfunction was turned off. The mouse on the right is the same mouse in the center after one month of having its mitochondrial function restored. The mouse on the left is a control which was untreated. It’s obvious the mouse on the right was restored to virtually full health after having been in such a depleted state one month prior.

Relevance Now

Discoveries in mice are not usually immediately translatable to humans. They give insight to cellular mechanisms and gene discovery which help scientists identify similar pathways and functions to be studied in humans. According to lead researcher Singh“this mouse model should provide an unprecedented opportunity for the development of preventive and therapeutic drug development strategies to augment the mitochondrial functions for the treatment of aging-associated skin and hair pathology and other human diseases in which mitochondrial dysfunction plays a significant role.”

It would seem likely then that a thoughtful composition of topical agents which support mitochondrial activity would be at least moderately supportive of hair growth. Interestingly, L-Carnitine is a known to have positive effects on mitochondria. Can anyone think of a hair growth topical containing L-Carnitine which may be coming out soon?

Hope they make a quick breakthrough with reversing grey hair. I am at my wits end, been trying black seasame seeds (if anything it slightly slowed it but haven’t even managed to stop it) and now I’m trying black strap molasses…I doubt it will work but I’m desperate.

What a breakthrough! I hope they will bring it to us real soon. I can’t wait more. I’m just wondering how it will feel when my bald had get hairy again! I’m so excited and hope this not a fake news.

Trial on mice until actual cure for humans is at least 15-20 years away, minimum.

I would suggest this is not essentially accurate. Usually lab work translates within 7-10 years or (more frequently) not at all.

    Évolis and FGF5
In May 2018, it was announced that Cellmid was entering into a distribution deal in China with Beijing Fukangren Bio-PharmTech. The latter will distribute the former’s Évolis anti-aging and hair care products in China.
In July 2018, Cellmid entered into a sales agreement with US based department stores Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales. These chains will start selling Évolis hair loss products in September 201

    Hi
Any thoughts on the new product called greyverse. It has clinical results and claim to stop and reverse grey hair.

I didn’t receive any response from them for comment, when that happens I typically move on.
