Q3 2021 New Companies: AddPharma, Novaliq, and Rizn

This article covers a few companies not previously discussed online and recent happenings in hair growth related news.

AddPharma of Korea

Where else would new hair growth medicine be coming out of but Korea? In the case of AddPharma, it’s a mixture of “old and new”, but we’ll take it. AddPharma is a pharmaceutical company which seeks to create “improved drugs” by incorporating controlled-release and improved absorption properties into its formulas. AddPharma currently has two candidate drugs for treating hair loss in their pipeline, AD-208 and AD-106.

addpharma.co.kr

AD-208, listed as an improved drug, appears to be dutasteride as it was tested head to head against Avodart (brand name for dutasteride) in a phase 1 trial. There is currently a phase 3 trial recruiting in the US for AD-208. While there has been very limited discussion about AD-208 online previously, I’ve not seen any mention of its pipeline counterpart AD-106. As you can see in the chart, there are three classifications for drugs: improved drug, “phase 1 assignment”, and new drug. There’s some kind of language barrier around the “phase 1 assignment” classification because as you can see in the chart that title does not relate to which phase the drugs are at and is meant to imply something else. Based on this understanding, my guess is that “phase 1 assignment” drugs are repurposed drugs, for example something like setipiprant. We shall see when AD-106 makes it to phase 2 in the US.

Novaliq

Novaliq is a pharmaceutical company based in Germany which develops medicines for ocular and dermatology related diseases. The company has developed a proprietary transdermal delivery system called hyliQ which is said to improve the penetration of active ingredients into the important dermal layers, while allowing for non-greasy and water-free formulations. The dermatology pipeline on Novaliq’s site lists a candidate drug “DLQ01” for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. The candidate is described as a prostaglandin F2alpha stimulator and is displayed as “phase 1/2a ready.”

Rizn

Due to popular demand in the comment section, I have created a separate page out of the spotlight for users to share their experiences using the new all-natural topical formula Rizn. Developed by the Triple Hair company, Rizn is the brand name of the TH16 formula which was tested in a three month clinical trial. Several readers have mentioned receiving shipments of the product which launched this month. There is also a version of the TH16 formula marketed towards women called Plenty which should be launching soon. The main ingredients of the TH16 formula are melatonin and resveratrol, I’m not aware of any differences between ingredients in the male/female versions.

Thanks everyone for reading. This article is a little something to sink your teeth into while we await important updates from companies like Biosplice/Samumed and Stemson. Thanks to reader john doe for news tips.

    • D1 on September 1, 2021 at 11:27 am

@FollicleThought an update from Biosplice feels optimistic right now haha

      • Follicle Thought on September 1, 2021 at 2:13 pm

Yes there’s no indication whether we will know within 2 months or 8, but it’s on tap to know whether the product is a go or a no.

  2. Keith on August 31, 2021 at 8:24 pm

    Any updates from Rizn users?

    • Remy on September 8, 2021 at 6:14 am

I just started Rizn. I have 4 months supply.

      I will update after 2, 3 and 4 months.

  3. felix on August 31, 2021 at 9:30 pm

Now on my 7th day of RIZN – just posted on new RIZN page. Just happy so far that I can use with & Minox foam w/o any weird interaction between the two. I have a 3 month supply – I don’t plan on going past 4 months unless I get some new sprouts.

    • Keith on September 1, 2021 at 8:46 am

Awesome man. I’m going to try as well! Keep us posted

    • Keith on September 1, 2021 at 12:10 pm

Dumb question maybe but any odd sleepiness from the melatonin in the product?

  4. Rodriguez on September 1, 2021 at 11:48 pm

I would like to ask a question that has nothing to do with the post. Does the medicine being developed by omega therapeutics have the ability to grow hair on completely bald areas?

    • Follicle Thought on September 2, 2021 at 9:02 am

There’s no way to know for sure at this time Rodriguez, but it’s possible since it involves the Wnt pathway

  5. jack on September 2, 2021 at 9:36 pm

So how many company’s now and not one can come up with a serious solution for MPB?
    That should tell you something.

  6. Follicle Thought on September 3, 2021 at 2:53 pm

What does it tell you Jack? All it tells me is there is more effort than ever before being applied.

No therapy is a serious solution/treatment until it’s on the market. That said, Kintor GT20029 and Stemson Therapeutics not serious contenders?

  7. Anthony D Salazar on September 3, 2021 at 4:09 pm

I see the point and agree that we’re a long way away from a cure. Sad but I think true. Nevertheless I think we would all be happy with upgraded pharmaceuticals and greater investment and progress towards reversing our problem, which I think is more realistic and possible given what we’ve seen already.

    • Follicle Thought on September 3, 2021 at 5:05 pm

Never disputed that a cure is a long ways away. I’ve always thought about “improvement” before I’ve thought about “cure.” Some guys are cured today with a simple FUE, that’s it. Most guys need an FUE and finasteride, and so on. Although I welcome the thought of it, I never anticipated that we would go from minoxidil to a fully cured NW0 therapy, and never have to think about hair again.

The point is to drive progress to reach solutions. I’ve seen companies miss their mark over the last few years and I’ve also seen tons of progress, the likes of which never occurred in the 90s, 2000’s, etc. Exicure raised $25M to create a gene therapy, Stemson raised $20+M to create hair cloning, Eirion raised $40M overall with lead candidates for hair growth and grey hair cure. It seems like every 4 months there is a new biotech with a treatment for AGA in their pipeline based on newer technology. Are they all guaranteed to work? No. But they are shots on goal and that’s what we need to win the game. Like the game or not, it’s what we need to win the game. ?

  8. ah on September 3, 2021 at 4:14 pm

    Stemson Therapeutics for 20 years,maybe

    • Follicle Thought on September 3, 2021 at 4:56 pm

It depends on the type of money they can pull, but I don’t agree with 20 at all. Just talked to Stemson CEO the other day.

      • ah on September 3, 2021 at 5:50 pm

it would be best to borrow money from the mob
the drug would come out in 6 months and not in 20 years 🙂
or there would be horse heads:)

        • Follicle Thought on September 4, 2021 at 11:28 am

          ?

    • Kapil on September 3, 2021 at 4:56 pm

Don’t forget Mane biotech and Rise technology I thing they are doing trials

      • Follicle Thought on September 4, 2021 at 11:36 am

I don’t think either are in trials yet. Will share any news as it comes.

        • Kapil on September 4, 2021 at 6:05 pm

Mane biotech may be in trial stage according to their former CTO they made 45 devices using UK based company He worked for them short period l hope they bring something good very soon

  9. skycheeseburger on September 3, 2021 at 5:36 pm

Has there been any word on Breezula? According to there pipeline they should be announcing phase 2 trial for women this month. Though haven’t heard if they even started phase 3. Kintor might overtake them at this rate.

    • Follicle Thought on September 4, 2021 at 11:28 am

It’s possible that they want to wait for the global health climate to reach a certain level so that a trial would not be interrupted with any social restrictions. That’s just an idea that came to mind now, I haven’t heard anything from Cassiopea about it yet.

      • skycheeseburger on September 4, 2021 at 12:21 pm

        Thanks for the update Admin

  10. Robert on September 3, 2021 at 6:14 pm

I wish more companies are working on grey hair cure. RiverTown Therapeutics reversed some grey hair with their RT1640 but they basically disappeared. Fortunately Eirion Therapeutics showed up this year with even more money than Stemson and I hope they succeed, but still, we can’t rely on only one company, we need more. How can’t they see that there is even more money to make in curing grey hair than in hair loss cure. I want both cures to happen, but grey hair cure research is seriously lagging right now.

    • Keith on September 3, 2021 at 6:17 pm

C 60 in olive oil seems to work for grey…rather have a full head of grey than bald and non grey

      • Follicle Thought on September 4, 2021 at 11:30 am

        Topical or oral dose Keith?

    • ah on September 3, 2021 at 7:01 pm

I think Kintor is the winner
      have financial resources
      they are serious in research
and they are aware of how much money they will make by selling their medicine.
Unlike Brezula, who, as far as I remember, started the research 10-12 years ago and who does not even know at what stage of the research
Kintor is a relatively new company

    • Follicle Thought on September 4, 2021 at 11:30 am

I agree with you Robert, these issues could use more funding. One scientist from the field told me there is some early unknown work being done for a gray hair cure, so it’s good that efforts are being made, but I don’t have any further info than that.

  11. Raphoulou on September 3, 2021 at 7:15 pm

I have a question for all users. Do some of you use LLLT ? Does it work for you ? I have not found yet an article here about this subject (maybe an article exists , but to old for my lazy fingers that do not want to scroll)

    • atommin on September 3, 2021 at 9:01 pm

I have been using hairmax almost over 3 years. No noticeable progress but I will keep using it. Beside hairmax, nothing I can do more for my hair at this moment.

  12. atommin on September 3, 2021 at 8:57 pm

I checked that AD-208 of AddPharma is just 0.2mg of dutasteride for hairloss treatment. 😉

  13. Gurvinder on September 4, 2021 at 12:26 am

Has no transplant surgeon tried verteporfin.its been three months since it’s discovery on hair growth effect.

    • Follicle Thought on September 4, 2021 at 11:34 am

I have not heard any yet Gurvinder. I have been contacted from a woman who wants to use verteporfin for scar correction only (not scalp) and she told me she has found a plastic surgeon who has agreed to use verteporfin. However, the surgery will not be until 2022. So, I will definitely keep you all posted with any important info I get.

      • Gabrielle on January 26, 2022 at 2:45 pm

Do you have any update on this?

        • Follicle Thought on January 26, 2022 at 3:55 pm

Gabrielle, not at the moment. I imagine she may be doing her surgery by ~September 2022? At this point it’s not clear but I will keep everyone updated.

  14. Acet on September 4, 2021 at 1:40 pm

The doomers here seem to thrive on their own misery, which is bad for everyone’s mental health. I understand doomer frustration, and I think it is the same frustration that we all have. However, while I don’t believe that we should all live in a bubble and keep telling ourselves that there will be a cure next month or next year, I do think that we need to appreciate the fact that we are constantly increasing our knowledge about the areas of biology (specifically regenerative medicine) required to attend to treating hairloss. Like the rest of you, I wish there was an affordable cure that would be announced tomorrow, though, just because that is not the case, it does not mean that I rush to condemn every new post about every new company that is written about here. I am sorry that progress does not follow a consistent and linear arch matched to human want, I wish it did! Despite that we all need to understand that we are at least 5 (very optimistically) to 10 (more reasonable) years away from a new innovation in treatment, it would be a mistake to consistently bog down everyone’s hope because this is not fast enough for you. Yes, it seems like a cosmic joke that some people lose their hair, and that there is, after thousands of years of anguish, still no cure; but you also need to consider how lucky we all are to live at this moment in human history– when a ‘cure’ (or at least an effective treat) for such a thing will very likely happen in our lifetime. Doomer or not, I want everyone on here to be mentally healthy and as happy as they can be, and pushing negativity will not help that. Think of others before you spread bad vibes.

    • Shayak on September 4, 2021 at 10:30 pm

      Very well said Acet.
@Admin, thank you for this article and for all the work that you do. A scoop from yuva Biosciences will be great before the end of the year

  15. Mjones on September 4, 2021 at 7:45 pm

I like the progress of kintor. I actually forgot about cassiopeia lol. Admin, do you know if kintor will show pics and results from their latest trial?

Also any word if samumed will present phase 3 results? Technically we should have heard something by now. First company to complete all phases for mpb and nothing but silence.

Hopefully we will see something before 2025. Anything that can grow a couple norwoods should be expected in this day and age.

All the other stuff like stemson and cloning is advancing but still early.

    • skycheeseburger on September 5, 2021 at 9:35 am

I do know they mentioned if they are successful they would release the results at a Dermatology Congress.

Though they have to release the results before the end of the year due to FDAAA regulations.

However every Dermatology Congress they released results at previously won’t be meeting until Q1 – Q2 of 2022. Unless the admin has any insight into any congresses happening before the end of the year.

If you ask me, reading between the lines, they’re just waiting till they have good results on their other drugs so they can release the bad results before the end of the year without affecting stock price too badly.

Or they’re just going to take the FDAAA fine and release the results at H1 next year. Which seems an odd choice.

    • Follicle Thought on September 5, 2021 at 2:33 pm

Mjones, I don’t know for sure if they will show pics but I do believe they will present % statistics for example hair count or hair density. I am waiting to hear from Biosplice/Samumed rep sometime over the next few months about whether and where they will be presenting their results.

  16. Gurvinder on September 5, 2021 at 12:50 pm

    r u talking about biosplice

    • skycheeseburger on September 5, 2021 at 1:09 pm

      Yeah.

  17. Mjones on September 5, 2021 at 10:40 pm

Admin I hope samumed doesn’t fail. Even if they can produce 10% regrowth with maintenance that would help me tremendously with my diffusion. I also remember that we wouldn’t have to use samumed daily. If I am not mistaken we use for 6 months off then 6 months on. It once every 3 days. I think I read that somewhere….

  18. AD on September 6, 2021 at 1:54 am

    Hi Admin,
What are your thoughts on turn biotech.
Do you think their solution could reverse balding and become a potential cure?

  19. D1 on September 6, 2021 at 11:44 am

@FollicleThought do you have any contact with J hewitt?

    • Follicle Thought on September 6, 2021 at 5:31 pm

Yes, the news is that certain societal restrictions are still preventing companies from operating freely over there and there is likely not much more updates available this year. The effort is still being made.

      • Shayak on September 6, 2021 at 10:27 pm

@Admin, will Yuva biosciences release their product next year, if its successful in in clinical trials? And do you think mitochondria has any connections with Androgenetic hair loss??

        • Follicle Thought on September 6, 2021 at 10:59 pm

I don’t know yet Shayak, it will take a few months to have a better idea for their game plan. I would say that something that improved mitochondria function could be beneficial to support hair regrowth. I think a lot of people overlook the fact that DHT degrades the cells in and around a hair follicle and that by boosting those cells you can help restore their viability and function. You don’t get rid of the DHT, and DHT will always be pressing against it, but you add resilience to the cells of the follicles to remain functioning.

          • Shayak on September 7, 2021 at 3:26 am

That’s a great viewpoint, haven’t thought about it in this way, thank you for your response @ Admin.

  20. SY on September 7, 2021 at 8:47 am

    sm04554 disappeared from pipleline
    why?

    https://www.biosplice.com/clinical-development/default.aspx

    • Tomeriko on September 7, 2021 at 10:05 am

Unfortunately you right . another one bites the dust.

    • skycheeseburger on September 7, 2021 at 10:17 am

Not just the pipeline. All mention the of it on the website is gone. Another failure.

      • Follicle Thought on September 7, 2021 at 10:41 am

It’s certainly not a good sign, nothing official has been announced yet, but in my opinion it does seem likely that the program has been dropped. I can’t think of another reason for it.

  21. D1 on September 7, 2021 at 10:57 am

@FT do you have a contact there to ask them?

    • Follicle Thought on September 7, 2021 at 11:03 am

I just reached out to one about a week ago regarding presentation at a conference and she gave me a roundabout answer. We will have to wait until the company makes a statement. Until then, I would recommend getting acquainted with the idea that SM04554 may be gone. If news turns out to be the opposite, well then that’s great, no biggie.

      • D1 on September 7, 2021 at 11:40 am

@FT these companies are dropping out of the race fast!!

        • Follicle Thought on September 7, 2021 at 11:42 am

Several drops have occurred, it’s true. I hope people appreciate the new company announcements more now. Nothing’s guaranteed, we’re all just doing the best we can ?

  22. skycheeseburger on September 7, 2021 at 12:10 pm

Guess it’s all on Cassiopea and Kintor now to bring something sooner than 5 -10 years

Kind of related to that some info I’ve found on Breezula.

I asked Cassiopea if they had any plans to release winlevi in other locations now that it’s been FDA approved. As setting up winlevi producers in other locations would likely speed up Breezula adoption should it be approved.

Got the typical nothing answer of:
Plans to make Winlevi (clascoterone) cream 1% available outside the US and Canada have not been
    announced.

I also did read that Wenlevi is being priced at $600 a tube by Cassiopea. With one person claiming their insurance company able to get it down to $35.

So likely the real price is around $35.

(No clue how American pharmaceuticals plays it’s little game but from what I’ve read that’s the likely price you can get it for) which should indicate Breezula pricing. Assuming double the price is probably a safe bet.

Having more faith in Kintor right now as we know they work in a similar way with winlevi working for acne, with Kintor having the potentially stronger drug and currently the only one publicly making progress in trials.

  23. ah on September 7, 2021 at 1:05 pm

    Kintor is the winner
This must be clear to every normal person

    • Kapil on September 7, 2021 at 1:30 pm

That is very true AH Cassiopeia dragging their phase 3 for some time Any of these companies taking too long and can’t get enough funding are safe to clear sadly many more to come

  24. nick123 on September 7, 2021 at 6:25 pm

    Hey Admin,

Unfortunately Biosplice/Samumed have removed all mention of SM04554 aka Dalosirvat from their website and their pipeline..

Looks like phase 3 failed and their silently discontinuing it..

    • Follicle Thought on September 7, 2021 at 8:00 pm

Thanks nick, yes that info was shared on the https://folliclethought.com/updates/ page from earlier this morning after other readers shared.

  25. ah on September 8, 2021 at 4:08 am

I saw on redit that kintor will publish the results of the phase 2 test this month
That’s how it’s done, quickly and efficiently
Honestly, they no longer have a competitor because the “mega companies” are shutting down

  26. skycheeseburger on September 8, 2021 at 10:36 am

Got an email response from biosplice

Biosplice is not pursuing further independent development of SM04554 for androgenetic alopecia and is evaluating global out-licensing opportunities for further development and commercialization of this program.

    • Follicle Thought on September 8, 2021 at 10:45 am

Thank you skycheeseburger, I appreciate your input. I would say that it’s still very odd that they would take the drug off of their website, that still doesn’t really add up to me. But, I hope the drug was not a failure in its trial.

      • skycheeseburger on September 8, 2021 at 10:51 am

        Thanks Admin.

Yeah it’s odd, but hopefully not a full failure. Maybe some alterations that Biosplice either isn’t up to the task for due to focusing on other areas and made a specialised team for that.

Sorry for the double comment. Added here before seeing the kintor news and thought I’d comment again. Feel free to remove if it’s spamming.

  27. antonio on September 12, 2021 at 12:01 pm

I cant find the page of rizn for buy the product

    • Keith on September 12, 2021 at 12:30 pm

      Rizn.ca

Has anyone tried it? Still wonder how applying melatonin would work, does it make anyone tired or sleepy?

Why not just apply resveratrol directly?

  28. Jade on December 4, 2021 at 11:04 am

    Hi Follicle Thought,

Do you think Therapy – 07 would be effective? I see you haven’t included it yet in the pipeline, their website says it is recruiting for Phase III clinical trails in USA and Canada.

Do you think this treatment has the ability to stop hair loss without side effects and what is your projection on the launch date of the product?

    Thanks in advance.

    • Follicle Thought on December 4, 2021 at 6:27 pm

I think it will be good, but any drug may have side effects.
